COIN Release Sophomore Album: How Will You Know If You Never Try

Following a successful run of their self-titled freshman album, COIN have finally dropped some new, fresh tunes.

How Will You Know If You Never Try, or HWYKIYNT for short, is the band’s newest album — jam-packed with edgier, groovier sounds, the album is sure to set the band apart. Considering their first album was much more indie-pop, this album is teetering on that edge.

With songs like “Boyfriend” and “Hannah,” the band is definitely bringing the fun, pop to the album. Playing on fast beats and catchy lyrics, the album feels like an ode to summer. And although some meanings feel darker than others, the band does such a great job at making music that feels infinite.

With “Lately II,” the band throws it back to their first album. The beginning of the song has a small snippet of the original song, but that isn’t where the similarities seem to end. “Lately II” has angelic voices in the background, making this song feel surreal. The beat, the lyrics, and the background harmonies make this song unbelievable

Ending the album with “Malibu 1992” was definitely the right move. The song is mellow, soft, and powerful. The entire song feels like something you fall asleep to — a song that embodies Malibu as a feeling.

COIN’s new album is perfect from beginning to end — we’d change nothing about this album and our ears feel incredibly blessed from having heard it. It’s alternative music at its finest. Sure it diverges from the sound of their first album, but considering they’ve mastered the art of making music that rocks, we’re glad to see COIN sharing their talent with the world.
